Phoenix, Arizona resident and City Councilman Tom Simplot did something that is simply astonishing to help himself better understand the disabled citizens of his community. “Simplot, a healthy, able-bodied person, was in a wheelchair.”
“On this day, Simplot was taking part of the Wheelchair Challenge to learn more about the challenges people with disabilities face, and to raise awareness on civil rights issues for the disabled.” “ “As a person who makes policy, you need to know what others go through,” Simplot said.
So how did his day go?
“In just a day using the wheelchair, Simplot said he realized several challenges.” “Simplot also realized how hard being in a wheelchair was.” “His mid-back started to ache and he soon realized how difficult it was to open and go through doors without standing up.”
Bravo Mr. Simplot! Thank you for taking part in this to help understand the disabled community and to make “educated” choices! We need more actions such as these in communities everywhere!
