It’s about time NBC!
In a landmark deal, NBC and the NBC Sports Network have signed an agreement with the International Paralympic Committee for the U.S. media rights to the next two Paralympic Games: 2014 in Sochi and 2016 in Rio. Then, in September of 2016, the Rio Summer Paralympic Games will receive 66 hours from Brazil on television. Compared that to the 5.5 hours of coverage they received in 2012, this is a monumental leap.
Exciting times for the competitors and fans alike!
The Paralympic community lit up upon release of the news. Amanda Everlove, a two-time American Paralympian, referred to the news as “groundbreaking;” and Jessica Long said that the news made her “more excited to train.” - Read more about the NBC Deal on www.swimswam.com
And a committee representative had this to say:
“We are absolutely cock-a-hoop,” said International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig Spence, fittingly borrowing a British phrase for being thrilled. – USA Today.com
Yes exciting times. I’m “cock-a-hoop”! Now there’s a phrase you don’t hear too often, if at all . I should try to use it one day, although it can be taken as a game of basketball using poop (caca-hoop) or a strange reference to an intimacy enhancing toy. Either way I’m excited!
